The Actress Says Speaking About Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart

The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer fitting to comment publicly regarding the Trump administration, worried it could exacerbate divisive discussions and further divisions throughout the United States.

‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says Lawrence

During a discussion, Lawrence shared, “When Trump was first in office, I thought I was acting frantically like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars do not make a difference in any way on who people vote for.”

The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just voicing my thoughts on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the nation apart.”

Shifting Views

Lawrence has previously been open about backing right and leftwing contenders in past elections. Raised by a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election then moving to the Democrats and explaining she realized during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was voting against her individual liberties as a female citizen.

Earlier Remarks

Several years ago, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election might signal “a disaster” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. More recently, she gave her endorsement to the Democratic nominee, “since I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard women’s health rights.”

Hollywood’s Stance

The star was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the limited influence stars have over the voting intentions was underscored by Trump’s victory.

“Another four years appears changed,” commented the actress about Trump’s presidency. “As he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for four years. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”

New Release

The actor is currently promoting the drama, director Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she plays a young mom who struggles with her psychological well-being in rural Montana. Speaking at a press conference for the film in Venice, the star addressed the situation in the Middle East: “I’m terrified. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is nothing short of a atrocity and it’s horrible.”

Additional Thoughts

The actress elaborated by saying that she was saddened by “the hostility in the discourse of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be accepted to the children now. It’s going to be standard to them that leaders are untruthful.”

The actor attempted to refocus outrage about the situation to policymakers rather than entertainers. “Concentrate on the people in charge,” she remarked, which was interpreted as a nod to the then-recent pledge endorsed by thousands of Hollywood professionals to boycott specific industry bodies.

Individual Insights

Lawrence, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her part in her breakout movie, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in the new film. Even though Ramsay has disputed the plot being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, she said that she identified with aspects of her character’s journey after the arrival of her new baby, not long after production wrapped.

“It was fear regarding my baby,” she explained, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I started taking a treatment called Zurzuvae and I continued it for two weeks and it made a difference.”

Film Challenges

Lawrence also discussed about the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the film while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.

“There’s a freedom,” she remarked, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between myself and a sex worker? But it isn’t a major concern.”
